HI all- I could use some help. I just purchased the Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac to transfer some old VHS movies I have to DVD before the VHS cassettes completely fall apart.

Setup was a breeze and the recording itself goes along just fine. But when I play the.mov file on my computer after the recording is finished, I run into trouble. About halfway through the recording, the audio starts getting out of sync with the video. It starts off at about a 1-2 second delay, but by the end of the full recording it's all the way at 5 seconds. The delay isn't there when I watch the VHS itself on the TV nor is it there on the display screen while the recording is in progress. This happened to EVERY single VHS transfer I've tried to do in the last few days. Is there any way to fix this?

Luckily I can digitise any analogue video with the JVC SR-VS30, although I did note that my version of VideoGlide which uses a an EasyCAP USB device to encode S-Video/Composite Video & Stereo Audio also had a difficulty with sound delay capture, but the software settings to VideoGlide could be altered to capture in 16 bit, so its possibly a default setting for Quicktime on Macs to look for 16 bit audio? The MAc has 4gb 1333Mhz DDR3 memory so it must be the software. I am trying to record video from an LG VCR. The sound is out of synch by around 20s after a 45minute recording. There IS an appreciable loss of quality when using the medium quality setting (some of my tapes are pretty poor quality already) so that is not an attractive option. Have tried a couple of suggestions from Roxio Customer support, but no luck so far.

Has anyone who has encountered this issue resolved it? I had the same problem when recording in High Quality.

After changing the quality to medium the audio is fine, although the picture quality suffers a little. What I see different in quality is more horizontal lines in edges of people and objets when the camera moves, not enough to bother with some videos but may hurt videos that already have very low quality. I might try QT sync latter. Has any one had a good experiance with QT sync? Or, is it a bit tricky to match audio? Edited October 26, 2012 by Rock 022. I see this problem as well.

I think I know what the problem is. In every case it happens to me, there has been a break in the recording from one scene to another. In the original VHS video, that break from one scene to another is also one where the recording is slightly garbled as it is transitioning. The software seems to try to 'help' by inserting a short green screen break between the scenes. Every point at which the Roxio software inserts this green screen, the audio gets a tiny bit more delayed because it also introduces an audio silence that is a bit longer than the green screen. If a video doesn't have many of these, the 'easy' way of avoiding the problem is to stop recording, then start again with a new recording beginning with the next scene.

Since I typically introduce transitions, titles, etc between scenes, this does work. Still, it's a giant pain in the butt that this problem has existed so long.

I was hoping there would be a way to stop the software from 'helping out' by inserting the green screens, but I don't see a way to do that. VHS cameras send an Analog signal which can be out of sync. Do not record strait from the VHS camera if you want to record in High Quality To fix this you can use a Time Base Correction device which can be expensive. I used an old Home Theater Receiver I have, between the camera and computer and this worked for me. If you can, try to use a VHS player, Home Theater or something which may fix the signal from the video camera, don't connect the camera straight to the computer if it gives you audio delay in High Quality.
